Re: Grain size versus cooling rate ?

Thank you for your help. I have been testing the 1D temp model with seed density approach and it does capture the change in grain density, at least provided that the initial undercooling isn't too high, so that's great ! My heat source is not as fast moving as in LPBF, but so far I have only tested ...

Re: Grain size versus cooling rate ?

Thank you very much Janin and Bernd for your answers, it is very helpful. Looking at the presentation provided, I better see how the cooling rate affects the grain density with the seed density model. Indeed, as noted by Bernd, nucleants and nuclei are not the same thing, so I'm going to use that mo...

Grain size versus cooling rate ?

Hello, Using Micress 7.0, I would like to perform solidification simulation to capture the effect of cooling rate on grain size, which is to be compared to actual microstructures from additive manufacturing experiments. In a first approach, I am only considering a fully liquid domain and nucleation ...

Ok Ralph, I will try this.

Thanks!

Synthetic microstructures with Dream3D ?

I wish to explore the generation of synthetic microstructure through Dream3D. Can it be done for 2D microstructures in some way or is it confined to 3D calculations ? Are there any other resources besides the Dream3D tutorial and the Micress training slides ? I did not find many posts on this topic ...

Re: "Force automatic start values, GZTRBO error" when simulating FCC_L12 composition set

Ok thank you Bernd.

We might have to modify the TC licence as we've had issues related to this. I will keep you posted.

Best,

Stéphane

Re: "Force automatic start values, GZTRBO error" when simulating FCC_L12 composition set

Hello Bernd, So our only two options at this point are to use an older version of the Ni database or to upgrade to Micress 7.1. We only have access to TCNI11, I don't know if TC would give us access to TCNI10 with our licence. Also older Ni databases might not be compatible with TC2022a with those n...

Re: Error "Force automatic start values, GZTRBO error"

I generated the GES file on Windows. I used the commands contained in the macro file I'm sending you through PM. I actually forgot to include the mobility data in the previous database as I was trying things out to generate composition sets from an equilibrium calculation and include them in the GES...

Re: Error "Force automatic start values, GZTRBO error"

Dear Bernd, Indeed we used TC2022a to generate the GES file. We have TC2020b but the Nickel database is not included (maybe we have to see with TC support to modify the licence file). I generated a new GES file with TC2021b but I still get the GZTRBO error. Would we have to go all the way back to TC...
