Re: Dendritic growth under high cooling rates

Dear PeGr, I tried your simulation input files as you sent them using MICRESS Version 7.1, and the results seems not so bad. That means, you get solidification in form of s dendrite, nucleation of the peritectic phase at the interfaces between the dendrite and the liquid, and complete solidification...

Re: solid-solid phase transformation

Dear kaiyang,

More information is required. Please attach input files or send them as PM if confidential.

Re: Stuck on step "Reading Ges5 file..."

Hi PeGr,

there seems to be something wrong with the .GES5-file - has it been created under Windows?

Re: Diffusionless transformation

Hi Ghavam, I think you have the following errors in your input file: 1.) You cannot have set C to stoichiometric when using the nple or para option in MICRESS. I also don't think it makes much sense otherwise. 2.) It is absolutely necessary to have some updating of thermodynamic data, e.g. all 0.01 ...

Re: Diffusionless transformation

Dear Ghavam, If you think the transformation should be very fast because of a diffusionless transformation, you should not use "mob_corr", because this limits the transformation kinetics to "diffusion-limited". You say that nple or para/paratq gives numerical problems - which are the problems? If th...

Re: IN718 Heat Treatments - Time/Solver Steps

Hi David, Welcome to the MICRESS Forum! It is also nice to hear that, as you say, you have overcome the numerical issues with the LAVES phase and already got reasonable results for solidification under SLM-conditions. With performance issues, the first thing to do should be to have a look at the .Ta...

Re: Solidification of Cu alloys

Dear worker, Welcome to the MICRESS Forum! While in newer MICRESS versions, the "penalty" function (which uses the modification of the driving force to prevent negative phase compositions) can be used independently from the "limits" (which do not allow TQ-equilibria outside a user-defined compositio...

Re: Initial concentrations

Dear Roscoe, This option has been introduced in Version 7.1 of MICRESS and can be specified in the Output section of the driving file: # Output # ====== # # Output times # ------------ # Finish input of output times (in seconds) with 'end_of_simulation' # 'regularly-spaced' outputs can be set with '...

Re: Parameters for latent heat?

Of course, the last formula must read:

f'α=(fα/(fα+f*m))3/2 ∗ (fα+f*m)

with

f*m = fm -fcrit if fm ≥ fcrit
f*m = 0 else

Re: Solidification of Cu alloys

Dear A ZU, Welcome to the MICRESS forum. Unfortunately, there are various reasons which can lead to a behavior like what you describe, especially in an old MICRESS version like 6.4. But, generally, I would proceed in the following way: 1.) Check whether your secondary phase has been attributed to th...
