Adaptive Interpolation in TQ interface

Dear MICRESS team,

I came across this publication: "Larsson, H., & Höglund, L. (2015). A scheme for more efficient usage of CALPHAD data in simulations. Calphad, 50, 1-5."

In this work, they propose an interpolation scheme which can speed-up the data retrieval from CALPHAD and it was mentioned that this method is already implemented in TQinterface. Does MICRESS use this method in the TQ-interface dll ? If so, can we change the memory allocated for this interpolation scheme ?

Regards,
Kamal

Dear Kamal,

MICRESS does not use this adaptive interpolation of the TQ interface. The reason is that we believe that the extrapolation schemes we use in MICRESS are more efficient, see:

B.Böttger, J.Eiken, M.Apel
"Multi-Ternary Extrapolation Scheme for Efficient Coupling of Thermodynamic Data to a Multi-Phase-Field Model"
Computational Materials Science, Volume 108, Part B, October 2015, Pages 283–292

Furthermore, the interpolation scheme of Thermo-Calc does not efficiently work for a high number of elements (say >10) which is still an important use case for MICRESS. This at least was our conclusion when we discussed the topic some years ago...
