Dear Bernd,
I am new to phase-field modelling and Micress software and I am already impressed with the capabilities of the method.
I want to simulate acicular ferrite formation to mimic the martensitic transformation. So, I started with the T015_Gamma_Alpha_FeC_Acicular example.
Everything is understandable so far but I am facing a strange problem. When I run the example, most of the times, the nuclei that are introduced in the microstructure do not grow and I get a final microstructure consisting of austenite with some ferritic nuclei being present (see figure). I rarely see the nuclei growing (Sometimes I think only one out of the three possible seed types can grow). In other words, I get different results by running the same script which is strange. Also, I have not changed anything in the script of the example.
I tried other examples that include nucleation, such as T010_Gamma_Alpha and it works fine.
In order to run the simulation, I import the file from the console mode of Micress software and I am using Micress 7.001.
What could cause this problem?
Best regards,
Stratos

Dear Stratos,
Welcome to the MICRESS Forum.
You are right. I tried the T015_Gamma_Alpha_FeC_Acicular example myself, and I got the same problem. It has been working properly with Version 6.4, and now it is not. So, obviously, some error was introduced in between.
We will have a look what happened, and give you an answer as soon as possible.
Best wishes
Bernd

Thank you for the quick response! it is good to know what was the reason for this strange problem, I look forward to receiving your update
Re: Problem with T015_Gamma_Alpha_FeC_Acicular example
Dear Stratos,
It has turned out that the issue you found with T015_Gamma_Alpha_FeC_Acicular only happens with the Windows version of MICRESS, which is quite strange. My colleague Ralph, who is expert for Windows compilation and who is on holidays this week, will try to fix the problem next week.
Meanwhile, it would be helpful if you could give us the exact version information of your MICRESS installation. It is written at the top of the screen output or .log output (version number, operating system, and compilation date).
Thank you for your patience.
Bernd

Dear Stratos,
there is an update 7.002 available on our download server. Use your usual download credentials.
It is sufficient to replace the executables located in Binaries_XXX/Bin in your installation.
Please give it a try.
