About the sign of the driving force

Post by Bernd » Wed Mar 26, 2014 4:05 pm

Hi,

while a lot has been said about the use of the driving force output for calibration of the interface mobility, the question what it means when the driving force is positive or negative is sometimes confusing.
To understand that better, it is necessary to know that in MICRESS the list of interface grid cells is sorted by pair-wise grain interactions k1/k2, where k1>k2.Therefore, a positive driving force is defined such that grain k1 is growing while k2 is vanishing, and vice versa.
Thus, it is important to check out the grain numbers before interpreting the sign of \DeltaG!
The same sign is also used for the interface velocity output *.vel.
