Stuck on step "Reading Ges5 file..."

I have already looked in the forum to see if anyone had similar problems, but could not find anything. I am using the latest Micress version 7.100 and ThermoCalc 2018b. When I try to start the simulation, I can't get past the point in the subject. In how far the simulation itself runs at all can not be checked at the moment...

Are version 7.1 and 2018b no longer compatible with each other?

Hi PeGr,

there seems to be something wrong with the .GES5-file - has it been created under Windows?

Hi PeGr,

works under LINUX with 7.101 for me.
Maybe you should contact your IT to exclude license issues.

Best,
Ralph

@ralph: i got the licences checked beforehand. IT told me i'm good to go...

Is there the possibility, that GES file created via Thermo-Calc 2018b is no longer compatible with Micress 7.100?

I tried an older GES file, which still works with Micress 6.4, to run with 7.1 and i still have the problem, that 7.1 does not read the GES file, eventhough it works with 6.4...

Hi PeGr,

usually, there are no problems with TC 2018 and MICRESS 7.1.
As I wrote before, your simulations using your GES5 file is running with 7.1 fine on my side.

What does that mean?
Do you use the same environment for 6.4 and 7.1?

I recommend to check it yourself:
- Run Safenet/MICRESS-7.101/Safenet/license_diagnostics-linux.exe in the environment where you execute MICRESS
- Are the database license features you used for creating the GES5 file in there?

Best,
Ralph

Hi ralph,

i am using one of the computers at the institute which are operating on Windows 10 Enterprise. It has both 6.4 and 7.1 installed.

If i am doing this, the console pops up for half a second and then closes again. Nothing really happens afterwards. What am i supposed to be experiencing after running the license_diagnostics-win-x64.exe?

Thanks for your help!

It is a command line tool.
Run 'cmd', navigate with "cd" to MICRESS/Safenet, run license diagnostics.

I thought that you are running under Linux. It is very unlikely that you have different environments for 6.4 and 7.1.
Anyway, it does not hurt to check license diagnostics.

Best,
Ralph

It is worth trying to run it without MICpad. Maybe some output is not shown.

Drag and drop your driving file to the MICRESS icon on your desktop or the MICRESS_TQ.bat in the MICRESS/Bin folder to check this.

Best,
Ralph

Hi ralph,

thanks for all your efforts. Unfortunately neither the MICpad nor the program itself works for me, it still does not go beyond the point of reading the GESfile...

The license diagnostics doesn't show any issues aswell (as far as i can read it)...

Can you specify what you mean by that? I tried to create a file with the following constellations
Fe
C: 0,37 wt%
Mn: 0,5 wt%

and the phases: Liquid, BCC_A2, FCC_A1

Thanks for all the help
