Random Error in MICRESS 6.4

Post by CharMIC » Sun Feb 25, 2018 1:02 pm

Hi,

I am getting the following error massage time to time. The simulation stops after the error massage. When I re run the problem error vanities. It happens randomly

Any clue on what causing the problem.

Hi Chamara,

If the problem comes while calculating diffusion coefficients (as it appears according to screen output) I would guess it is due to an incompatibility of the .ges5 file with the TQ library (which is 2017a in case of MICRESS version 6.4). How did you create the .GES5 file (which databases, versions, and version of Thermo-Calc used)?

If it is not that, I would need to check out tomorrow at my linux workstation.

Hej Bernd,

I used Thermocalc 2017a

Data base - TCNI8, MOBNI4

Hej Chamara,

I propose you send me the .ges5 file and the driving file (and other necessary input files) as attachment or by mail. If you created the .ges5 file with a script it would be helpful to see it also. Then I will have a look.

It still could be something completely different...

Hej Bernd,

I will send you the necessary files.

I created a single ges5 file and made multiple copies out of it. In other simulations, I do not get this error even though I use the same ges5 file.

Hej Chamara,

Seems you are the first to find a bug in the new Release 6.4. It is an uninitialized variable in a subroutine which averages concentrations for calculation of diffusion coefficients and also for output (.TabC), in combination with "1d_far_field". This explains why it is occurring randomly...

You will get a fixed version from Ralph very soon, please check your e-mail!

Hopefully, this will resolve the issue...

Best wishes

Bernd

HEj Bernd,

I received the email.

I have performed some successful simulations with MICRESS 6.4. Does it means that I need to rerun the simulation with the new bug fixed version ? thinking that bug may have caused problems in calculating diff coefficients?

Dear Chamara,

don't worry! MICRESS was just trying to calculate something uninitialized which was overwritten afterwards anyway...

Thus, apart from crashing sometimes (and that only under certain circumstances) it does not at all affect results.

Hej Bernd,

I get this messages sometimes after completing of a simulation. (no error massage during the simulations).

Hi Chamara,

these are temporary files used for the MICRESS output message system (fort... files).
These files are created in your temporay directory (see content of $TMPDIR) or in your current working folder.

Did you erase these files before MICRESS has finished ?

Best,
Ralph
