Bainite

Hello everyone,

I want to simulate the solid-state transformation process of austenite-bainite through micress. Since I am in contact with micress for the first time, and there is no relevant case in the case library, I do not know how to set the relevant phase and parameters. I hope to get everyone's help.

Dear Jane,

Welcome to the MICESS forum!

I am not an expert for bainite, but I can give you a few links:

Dear Bernd,

Thank you very much for the literature you recommended, but I have not found the specific phase of bainite after reading the literature. I am still confused and have no way to establish the austenite-Bainite transformation model. Could you please recommend an expert on bainite transformation to me?

Dear Jane,

The problem with bainite is that it is not a specific phase in a thermodynamic or crystallographic sense, which makes it difficult to model. As you can see in the links which I suggested, there are intentions to describe it as supersaturated ferrite or as mixture of ferrite and carbides.

I would currently suggest W. Song (1st link) as expert for bainite and its simulation with MICRESS.

Dear Bernd,

I regret that I can't get in touch with the bainite expert you recommend, or can we put aside bainite, can we directly achieve the transformation from austenite to any two phases? Through some cases in the forum, it seems that it can be achieved, but I did not do it. Are there any related cases?

best wishes
Jane

Dear Jane,

Of course, the most prominent case is formation of ferrite plus cementite, see e.g. examples A012/A013.
